For my flash website, I want to use Futurefarmers.com as my inspiration. This website combines both HTML and Flash for the text to be searchable.

It’s hard to say whether Flash will still be around in the future because so many developments can happen from now until then. All I know is when I use a Flash website the effects are great, but the loading time does bother me a bit. I also have to go to the Adobe website and download Flash onto my laptop or device, so that slows the process a bit. I think if Flash fixes these two problems then Flash will be around in the future. Having a Flash website load on my mobile device is too much information to process and I feel that if a programming language cannot function on a mobile device then it will not progress with web users.

I like the idea that HTML5 will allow users the freedom of accessing a website without having to download a program from a third party website. Web users like immediate solutions, and adding an extra step just causes irritation. But if Flash is the only way to have my design play out the way I want it to then I will stick with Flash.

Since the debate is still going, I feel learning Flash is still important. It’s a technology I want to learn and I feel it can still advance as Adobe tries to work out some of the few set backs the Flash player has. Because I am studying interactive media, I don’t think I’ll ever stop learning and going to school. There will always be something new being built and it is my job as a design to constantly keep up with the updates, versions, and new innovations that interactive media has to offer. By learning the programs and different coding languages I can easily transition to the next step, whether it be Flash or HTML5 or both.

This is the second round of my website, changing around the typefaces, colors, and positioning.

Below is version 1 of my website. I have my grid layout planned out like in my previous sketches. This is the part where I am playing around with typefaces and color palettes.

This will be the layout of my website. the Icon, logo and header, menu bar, and side bar will stay constant while navigating throughout the website. The only changing section of my website will be the Content section.

Here is the site diagram for my portfolio website. Very simple, not many tabs to navigate. I want to make a complex model, in that all my index pages will connect to one another.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s meaning is so full of baloney. People judge appearances every day. When making a decision under pressure, I tend to choose the options that are most attractive to me. It doesn’t matter how it works on the inside, if it looks good on the outside then I’m more vulnerable to trust it.

But functionality is important too. Unfortunately, it tends to be the runner-up to my decision making process. When I’m shopping around for an electronic, I first look at the visual options, then I look for how this visually attractive product can service me. These decisions are never black and white though. My initial response to wanting to shop around for an electronic is because I am in need of a product that will be functional to my life.

It’s hard to choose which is more important – the aesthetics or the functionality – but why choose? Both these elements work hand in hand with each other. To have a great product or design, we need to incorporate both elements to successfully achieve its purpose.
